Central Bank data shows that 140 financial institutions, including banks, fintechs and payment companies, have asked for authorization to offer instant payment since launch, according to data collected until Thursday (28).

The deadline for joining is June 1, with the launch of the system scheduled for November. According to the schedule, there will be a new opportunity to join the system as of December 1

On the list are the five largest banks in the country - Itaú, Bradesco, Santander, Banco do Brasil and Caixa Econômica Federal -, but also institutions such as the digital banks C6 and Nubank, the credentials of PagSeguro and Stone cards and the digital wallets PicPay, from the bank Original, and the American bank PayPal. Adhesions are "in progress", according to the regulator.

Approximately 45% of subscriptions are indirect participants, that is, institutions that offer an account to the end customer, but who will need to use a direct participant to settle the transactions, upon payment of an amount negotiated between the parties.

According to the rules, all financial or payment institutions with more than 500 thousand checking, prepaid or active savings accounts will be required to participate in the PIX, offering customers the functionality of initiating and receiving payments. The others, even if they have not reached the limit, were given the possibility of joining to participate since the launch.

PIX allows transfers and payments between people, companies and governments 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at a low cost. It will also be possible to make payments at physical commercial establishments by scanning a QR Code.

In the second, the BC will start the instant payment approval phase, in which tests will be required by the participants, both in relation to the connection to the BC's settlement and data storage systems, as well as the end user experience in the applications of the financial and payment institutions.
